Cathy & Dan’s Wedding | Valley Forge Casino Resort

Every couple that I work with is unique in their own way, and discovering that uniqueness and capturing it in photos is one of the facets of wedding photography that I love most. The very first time I met Cathy and Dan at my studio it was obvious to me that having fun was something they took very seriously, and that nothing would get in the way of their wedding being lots of fun.  In fact, fun personal touches were spun into just about every detail of the day.  Crazy socks… fun, Boba Fett cufflinks… fun, super hero undershirts… fun, bridesmaid’s robes fun.  Even the officiant was fun!  He actively dabbed sweat from Dan’s forehead without skipping a beat and at one point during the ceremony he quoted Cathy’s cat… as in he meowed a whole sentence!  Having steel drums during cocktail hour was fun…. as was watching Dan eating his whole wedding cupcake in one bite!

But, sometimes unexpected issues can come up on a wedding day that aren’t fun at all! Like when Dan went to tie his shoe at the hotel only to tear a huge hole in the crotch of his pants, but did he get all upset? Absolutely not, we all laughed for a bit, I took a few pictures (I excluded them from this post… after all, this is a family friendly blog!) and we went to work finding a sewing kit along with someone capable of CAREFULLY stitching things back up.  Crisis averted.

Next, Cathy had gone through the trouble of acquiring a permit so that we could go to Pawlings Farm in Valley Forge Park so that we had a beautiful background for their first glance and bridal party photos.  Of course their wedding date was right in the middle of the memorable government shut down of 2013 and the park was completely closed off!  I kept telling Cathy that I was certain the shutdown would end by the time their wedding day came and we’d be fine… BUT, while it doesn’t happen often, I was 100% wrong.  There were discussions about sneaking into the park so that we could still take pictures there, and despite the fact that I thought we could get some really awesome photos as the bridal party was getting arrested by Park Rangers, Cathy talked sense into everyone and we found another park that wasn’t too far away.  Thank you Cathy, and thank you Google Maps satellite view!

So despite a few setbacks, fun was had by everyone, and ultimately that’s exactly how it should be.  I know this is a long post, but the moral here is simple, things can and will go wrong on your wedding day. But keep in mind what the day is really all about and no matter what, you’ll have a great time!

Thanks again Cathy and Dan, I look forward to seeing you both again when you come in for your album consultation!

Cheers,

Todd
